Info on the OU for the summer semester 26
!!! Attention room changed: Sedanstraße 19 room 221 !!!
In the days preceding the first lectures, the Orientation Unit (OU) takes place. It is organized and hosted by students from higher semesters to help ease your transition into your studies, yet it remains your first official academic event.
It takes place on: Monday, Mar 30th, and Tuesday, Mar 31th. Since only the Master's program in Computer Science at the department starts in the summer semester, the OU is only aimed at those starting the Master's in Computer Science in the upcoming semester.
On Monday, Mar 30th, we'll start at 9:00 a.m. at Sedanstraße 19 in room 221. Due to delays at the construction of the new buildings we had to change the room on short notice to a different one. The Sedanstraße 19 is only a few meters away from the MIN Forum where the OU was supposed to take place. Please check just before the OU whether there is a room change given that unforeseen things can always happen at bigger construction projects and the OU will be the first seminar that takes place at the new location. Please also make sure when travelling to the OU that you don't accidentally travel to the Informatikum in Stellingen which is our old campus. After all of you hopefully found the right room we start with a communal breakfast. This will be provided free of charge by us, so you can get to know your fellow students in a relaxed atmosphere. Registration for the OU is not required.
We would greatly appreciate it if you could bring along the following items:
- Cup/mug, plate, and knife so we can avoid using disposable tableware during breakfast
- STiNE login credentials so that you can register for courses during the OU. Please note that you also need a second factor for the STiNE login in addition to the username and password. The second factor can be the 2FA code list you received from the university or a device you have set up for 2FA.

What is the OU?
During the orientation session, you will get to know your fellow students and learn a lot about the University of Hamburg. Additionally, you will get to know the Informatikum. Furthermore, we will introduce you to the system (STiNE) with which you must register for lectures and help you to enroll in the right courses.
During the departmental presentation, the individual research groups of the department will introduce themselves. So, on the one hand, you will get an overview of the research at the department, but on the other hand, also about the range of courses offered. This will make it easier for you to choose modules.
It is therefore worth it for you, even if you already have a solid circle of friends in Hamburg or have already completed your Bachelor's degree at the University of Hamburg.
